These pages are about so called broadband data networks. It is, however, used for everything from ISDN to optical fibre networks.

Here, I am following the Swedish IT-kommissionen in defining broadband as data transmission with at least 5 Mbit/s. The reason for this is simple: For video transmission of GOOD quality (much better than TV) it is necessary to have this capacity in the transmission link.

Email and browsing the web can be done with everything from modem upwards, but all services based on video transmission must have real broadband. This is the big step which must be taken in the future. It is not only about watching films and TV but essential for video conferencing, eCommerce, eEducation, eHealth and so on.
